Deep depth of field

When the photo is taken using a deep depth of field, all the objects seen in the picture are in focus which helps the viewer to understand the location the picture is taken and what activity is going on. In the picture, we can see that the photo was taken in a coffee shop while the character is perhaps studying. The overall mood created was a warm and peaceful mood, showing that the studying process was comfortable and stress-free.

Shallow depth of field

With the out-of-focus background, Starkbuck's coffee cup is the main attention that attracts the viewers. It is easily spotted that the mood of the picture is warm due to the brown color scheme created by the cup and the table, this helps to outline the background environment as a coffee shop. Different from how people view the picture in the deep depth of field where they focus more on the background and what is happening, the shallow depth of field brings people's attention to the coffee cup and looks more like an advertisement.
