Creative choices - The mirror scene
After visualizing the script by creating the storyboards, I slightly changed the camera shots and angles of a few scenes to fully deliver my idea to the audience. More importantly, there are 2 major (possible) changes that I have taken into consideration after drawing the storyboards.
2 mirror scenes appear during my 2-minute opening sequence. The first one appears in scene 2, shots 4, 5, and 6. This is then repeated again in scene 7, shots 1 and 2. At first, when I came up with the script, I believed that duplicating the scene twice could show the binary opposition of the emotion and status of character A when she sees the reflection in the mirror. During the first scene, the reflection will be blurred, jerked, and generally hard to see because the scene happens when character A is unconscious. As the scene happens again when character A fully acknowledges her surroundings, the image becomes clearer, leading to the audience seeing character B smirking and the screen turns to black, showing the title ident: "Who are you?"
However, after drawing out how I imagined my opening sequence to be, I think that having 2 repeated scenes in 2 minutes is not a very nice idea, especially when both scenes have the same camera shots and angles. Moreover, it might be hard to convey the message that I want by only 2 shots. Therefore, I have made 2 considerations about both scenes and I think that it could be changed, to make the opening sequence better.
The first choice is that I could remove scenes 2, shots 4, 5, and 6, and cut from the scene where character A panics as she washes her bloody hands, to her waking up from the "nightmare". After that, the mirror scene could be kept at the end, to complement the title of the film "Who are you?" as character B smirks and looks into the camera.
The second option is to cut the opening sequence from scene 6, shot 2, the part where character A is confused when she arrives at the murder scene, seeing all the evidence, which is exactly similar to her "nightmare". And as character A looks into the camera, it could be cut to black with the title ident.
I have not decided what way is better for my film and I think that it could be finalized when I am in the editing process, as I could fully visualize how everything flows, to be able to make the most suitable decisions. For now, I would stick to my current storyboard and would still be filming both mirror scenes, but I will decide which one I will keep when I reach my post-production stage.
